4 (1/4 inch thick) ham steaks
3 large potatoes, very thinly sliced
1 medium onion, diced
1 clove of garlic, minced
2 Tbl butter
2 Tbl flour
1 1/4 cup milk
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
Preheat oven to 350. Coat a 9 inch square baking dish with cooking spray. In a medium saucepan, heat the butter over medium heat until melted. Add the onions and garlic and sautee for 3 minutes, until tender. Add the flour and whisk to make a paste. While whisking, slowly add the milk and whisk continuously until the mixture begins to bubble and thickens. Remove from the heat and stir in the salt and pepper. Layer half the potatoes in the baking dish, followed by half the sauce, then the rest of the potatoes, and the rest of the sauce. Cover with foil and bake at 350 for 45 minutes. Remove the cover, and top with the ham steaks. Return to the oven for 20 minutes, or until the potatoes are cooked through and tender.
