Braised Cabbage with Sausage

1 package sweet Italian sausages
1 tbl vegetable oil
1 small head cabbage, cored and shredded
1 tbl butter
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 jar marinara sauce

Heat the vegetable oil over medium high heat in a large heavy skillet.  Add sausage links and brown on all sides, 3 minutes per side.  Remove sausages to a cutting board.  Reduce heat to medium and add cabbage, butter, salt, and pepper.  Saute the cabbage until beginning to soften and wilt, 5 minutes.  Add the jar of sauce and bring to a simmer.  Reduce heat to medium low.  Slice sausages into bite-size pieces and add into the pan with the cabbage and sauce.  Cover, and simmer until sausages are cooked through and cabbage is tender, 8-10 minutes.  Serve.
