Maple Walnut Blondies

1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 tablespoon maple syrup
Pinch salt

1 stick unsalted butter, melted
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 egg
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup all purpose flour

Preheat oven to 350. Grease an 8 or 9 inch square baking pan.

In a medium saucepan, combine walnuts, maple syrup, and salt. Place over medium high heat and cook, stirring constantly, 3 minutes. Set aside to cool.

In a mixing bowl, beat melted butter, brown sugar, salt, and baking powder on medium high for 2 minutes. Beat in the egg, maple syrup, and vanilla. Beat in the flour on low until combined. Fold in the cooled walnuts.

Scrape into the baking pan and bake 25 to 30 minutes until just set but still soft in the middle. Let cool 1 hour, then slice into bars and serve.
