Berry Salad with Basil and Lime

1 half pint container blackberries
1 half pint container blueberries
1 half pint container raspberries
1 pint container strawberries 
4 teaspoons sugar
2 tablespoons minced fresh basil
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon lime juice

Gently wash and drain berries. Pat dry. Hull the strawberries and cut in half.

In a serving bowl, add the sugar, basil, pepper, and lime juice. Use a rubber spatula to press the mixture into the bowl to release the basil's natural oils into the sugar. Add the berries and toss very gently. Let sit 15-20 minutes, then gently toss again and serve.
